Chemo Angels

This is such a cool idea!

http://www.chemoangels.net/

This organization matches up volunteers with chemo patients. A "card angel" commits to send a card weekly to their chemo patient for the duration of their treatment. How special would that be? I'm seriously considering signing up (just want to make sure I can fulfill my end of the bargain first). If you're interested - check it out!

One of these things....

is not like the other. One of these things just doesn't belong. Can you tell me which thing is not like the other, before this song is done?
Argh! That song has been stuck in my head all day!

I can see the difference - can you see the difference? Holy moly - where did all these bad cliches come from? So I know this blog is supposed to be about card making, but as you can tell life spills over into my blog too. We're in the process of painting our kitchen. I'm currently working on the walls - which should be completed by the end of the week, and then I'm prepping the cabinets for paint, which we will do while hubby is on holiday in August. So last night we decided to get rid of the eyesore which was our hood fan. We didn't want to replace it, since it's only re-circulating (which means it doesn't vent to the outside - why oh why?) so we painted it. Didn't hubby do a great job? It makes such a huge difference in the look of the kitchen.

Commissioned Baby Cards

How cool is that? I've been "hired" to make some baby cards. I made these for my good friend Tina Tea. I still need to make her the tea bag holders that she also "ordered" - but hopefully in the next couple days. These cards are all pretty similar due to the fact that I was a little short on time and inspiration. I think they're pretty adorable though and hope they live up to what she's expecting! I got to use my linen background stamp for the first time on the pink ones - it's such a pretty, subtle effect and it's going to be a favourite - I can tell.

Everyday Inspiration

This is what the Cdn. edition of Harry Potter 7 looks like. I haven't looked to see what the US version looks like. I was thinking as I was looking at the cover that it would make a good card layout.... so I made a card. I found the stamp I wanted to use (love that sketched bird!) and was also inspired by the cardinal who suns himself in our yard every afternoon. Then I saw the Splitcoast challenge for today which was to make a tent topper card. It's really just a regular card with a panel set on top. It looks especially pretty standing up and so that's what my card became. Sorry for the poor pic but it's too late and too dark to retake it.

Grillafella!

I love this guy because he looks just like my fella! We own a small stake in a couple of Barbecue/Fireplace/Patio Furniture stores and my hubby runs them. So we're all about everything barbecued! This card needs something else - but I'm not sure what. Normally I'd stick some ribbon or a flower on it, but since it's a guy card.... maybe some brads....we'll see.

Harry Potter and Disposable Monitors!!

I admit it - I'm a huge Harry Potter fan. I picked up my pre-ordered book from Chapters around 12:30am on Fri. night/Sat. morning. I read until 2:00am and then read again the next day until I finished it around mid afternoon. It was sooooooo good! I won't spoil it for you but I think it's my favorite book in the series. I now want to re-read it, slowly, and paying more attention to the details.

I have a card to post but my monitor died on my computer. I'm posting this from hubby's laptop. I phoned Dell and asked them if monitors were now "disposable" and they told me pretty much "yup". How is that right? The old CRT monitors lasted forever and an LCD will last around 3 years - which is about how old mine is. So unfair! Sooo....we'll be replacing our monitor pronto (if I have anything to say about it!) so I should have some cards to post soon.

Happy reading to my fellow HP fans!!

More new stuff...

Hee hee! I love getting new stuff - even if this order is boring! It's mostly just cardstock - whisper white, the retired cool caribbean, and a soft subtles assorted pack. My first background stamp (linen) and a full sized stamp pad (celery - I'm slowly starting to add to my collection - I now have 4 - I love the spots but it's nice to have full sized pads too!). Also you may notice the new Stampin' Up catalogue! I had seen it online but it's so much nicer to have the real thing! I love the new In Colours and there are a couple of sets on my wish list already! Hopefully I'll be back later with a card - right now I'm doing all those icky getting back from vacation chores (laundry, groceries, etc.....).

Home again, home again, jiggitty jig

As you may or more likely may not have noticed, I've been absent. We just got back from our trip back to Calgary. We moved to Burlington almost 5 years ago and go back to Calgary every July for a visit and a business conference in Portland. We had a great trip and I had almost no computer access while we were there (went through some withdrawal symptoms, but survived).

So...I'm back and hoping to get back stamping soon. I got some new goodies from a great little store there - Paper Pastimes. And tomorrow I hope to pick up the new Stampin' Up catalogue and the order I placed at Jenn's retirement party - so I'll have lots of inspiration!!
