MFT Teasers - Who's That Mummy?

Welcome to Day 1 of MFT Teasers for the September release.  This month we've changed everything up for you.  Teasers start a whole 2 days earlier and we hope you'll like what you see.  Today we're showing you the newest Who's That Girl set - Who's That Mummy?

I paper pieced my mummy (lol) on some Basic Grey Eerie papers and used Karen's sweet Sunday sketch for my layout.  I stamped one of the sentiments from the set on the new Ticket Tab die and embellished with a flower cut from the new Prima Donna Petals die.  I love both these new dies!  I also used the Small Scallop border along the bottom panel.

I finished the inside off with another sentiment from the set as well as an extra flower cut with the  Prima Donna Petals die and a border made from the new Woodgrain Fence die.  I know you probably can't tell from the picture, but the fence die embosses a wood grain onto the die cut!  It's fabulous!

Here are the details about the upcoming release on September 6 at 10 PM EST:
  • The MFT release is on September 6 at 10 PM EST. You can attend the release party from 8-10 PM EST here in the forum for fun, games, and prizes! All the new sets and dies will be available September 6 at 10 PM EST.

MFT Design Team Creative Chat - Die-namics Storage

MFT has come up with a new monthly feature and we think it's something you'll really enjoy. The My Favorite Things Design Team Creative Chat is a new monthly feature, where we are challenged to explore our creative spaces and share valuable organizational methods, tools, and shopping strategies with you. You'll be able to peek into our creative spaces, ask questions, and share your own ideas in the MFT forum.  This month, we were asked the following questions:

How do you store and organize your Die-namics?
Any fun or helpful Die-namics purchasing strategies you'd like to share?
How do you store extra Die-namics die-cuts?

Visit Kim's Blog for a full list of designers that have taken up the challenge and get ready to delve into the minds of our creative team!

Well how much fun is this?  I'm so excited to see how all the other designers are storing their Die-namics.  My system is working for me - but I'm always on the hunt for new and improved ideas!  So let me share a bit about my system.  Obviously this post is pretty picture heavy - my apologies but I didn't want to leave anything out.  It's pretty simple and there's still room to grow (which is super important).  It all starts with these photo magnet sheets that I get at my local Dollarama.  The sheet is 6"x9" and costs a buck.  It's adhesive on one side, so I cut a piece of cardstock to size and adhere it for added strength.

The magnet sheets get stored in a plastic box - also found at Dollarama.  As you can see, this one was big bucks - a whole $2 - what a splurge!

My dies stick to the magnetic side of the sheet and here you can also see the back covered in cardstock.

Each sheet is labelled with the Die-namics File Tab die so that they're easier to flip through.  To do this, I take a 2" strip of cardstock and score it lengthwise at 1".

Then I line the top of the file tab up with the folded edge of the cardstock.  I position the fold just under the cutting edge as you can see in these two pictures.  I use a piece of tape to hold it in place while I run it through my Cuttlebug.

This results in a double tab which is still attached along the top edge.

I use my label maker to mark each tab and then simply use my ATG gun on the inside of both tabs to adhere the label to my magnet sheet.  Here you can see an example of how I organize my dies.  I find it easiest to keep "like" items together, so I have the three sizes of Decorative Doilies along with the matching Faux Crochet border die all on the same sheet.

All the sheets are stored in the box and I can flip back and forth to find what I need.  It's also easy to grab them quickly off the magnet and slap it back on when I'm done.  It's essential for me to be able to tidy up quickly, otherwise I don't get it done.

Honestly, I don't actually keep the extras of my die cuts.  If I've cut them from felt, then I will generally keep them - I just throw them into this tiny plastic bucket.  It's easy to dig for what I need.  If my extras are paper I generally chuck recycle them.  For me personally, I don't like to dig and I'd rather just cut another one with extra paper.

The final part of the question was about buying strategy.  And I haven't got much to add - because you need them all!  LOL!  I use my dies a lot.  I rarely make a card without at least one die and although I have my favorites, I like to mix them up.  I especially love the dies that have accompanying or co-ordinating stamp sets.  They make really cute, quick cards - and I love that!

And before you leave, I have a card to share too!  Bonus!  I used Pure Innocence Lollipop Girl and mounted her on the smallest die in the Open Scallop Doily Duo set.  I also used the Upsy Daisy die.

For the inside, I finished it off with a sentiment from the set More Essential Sentiments and some flowers from Pretty Posies and the Little Open Scallop Border die along the bottom.

I hope you enjoy this new monthly feature and that maybe you've seen something that will work for you.  Thanks for stopping by and I'll see you back here tomorrow for the first of the September Teasers!

    Happy Anniversary and a Sketch

Happy Monday friends!  I took a bit of a blogging break last week but was busy stamping.  One of the cards on my to-do list was an anniversary card for my hubby.  Today is our 13th anniversary and although we celebrated on the weekend, I saved my card for today.

I used some MME Lost and Found papers and paired them with a sentiment from You Move Me.  I actually stamped the sentiment twice – first in Memento Rich Cocoa ink and then again nearly over top in red ink.  I love the dimension it gives the sentiment in real life.  I used the Textile Rectangle die since it matched my mood a bit better and also used the Fancy Flourish die and Hearts a Plenty die

    2011_08280001

To finish off the inside I used another heart as well as the Simply Scallops Medium die.  The sentiment is from the set Clearly Sentimental About You

    2011_08280004

Although I didn’t get this week’s Wednesday Sketch card done in time, I did get it done!  Here I paired Pure Innocence Love You With All My Heart with a the File Tab die and used a sentiment from the Notched Tag die and stamp set

    2011_08280005

I stamped this cutie again on the inside and added a Simply Scallops strip as well.

It’s going to be a busy week on my blog. I have posts lined up for each day starting with a new special MFT feature for you tomorrow and then Teasers start for the September release on Wednesday.  Thanks for stopping by.

    MFT Wednesday Sketch Challenge #33

Happy Wednesday and MFT sketch challenge day!  We're changing things up a bit.  The sketch challenge will now be posted on Kim's blog at noon EST rather than midnight.  The sketch will still be posted on Splitcoast in the MFT forum at midnight though - so MFT junkies over there get a sneak peek up to 12 hours early!  All the more reason to hang out in the MFT forum.

For my card, I combined a whole bunch of sets and dies.  I'm always needing boy birthday cards so decided to go bright and fun.  I used the You Move Me stamp and die set for the sentiment panel and then used the By The Numbers die layered on top of the First Place Award Ribbon dies.  I used the Open Zig Zag border along the bottom of my middle panel as well.

Remember, you can get all the details by visiting the MFT Blog and the MFT forum on SCS (look for the most recent WSC thread).  You'll need to upload your card in the SCS gallery using the keyword shown on the sketch. You will have the chance to win up to $20 in MFT money. One winner is chosen at random each week!

MFT VIP Hop - Who's That Mummy

Welcome to the MFT VIP blog hop.  This is your chance to get September's Who's That Girl set 3 weeks early - along with some other yummy goodies.  This is a limited quantity product so hurry and snatch up your very own VIP kit before they're all gone.

If you've just stumbled upon this post, you'll want to head back to the beginning of the hop - over at Kim's blog.  I decided to make a tag with this month's set - Who's That Mummy.  I used the Tag You're It Die-namic with some MME paper and layered a Fancy Flourish (currently being re-stocked) under my image.  I used the Solid Bracket Border die along the bottom and fussy cut one of the flocked spiders from the backside (or front side) of my paper.   I love how quick and easy the mummy is to colour!  Just some shading with my Toner Greys and she was done!  I also used the File Tab Die-namic along the side of my tag - along with a sentiment from the exclusive sentiment set included in the VIP kit.  I must admit that as soon as I saw this particular sentiment "Rest in Pieces" I knew that I wanted to make a tag for a bag of Reese's Pieces.  I am all about the bad pun!

That's all I've got to show you tonight!  Don't forget to snatch up your own kit.  Now you're off to see my super talented friend Sherrie.  I know she's got something amazing to show you!  Thanks so much for hopping by.

    MFT Wednesday Sketch Challenge #32

Happy Wednesday!  It's time for another MFT sketch challenge.  I struggled a bit with this week's sketch - mainly just because I wanted to do something different.  I decided to pull out the Just My Type stamp and die set and thus made my card square and a little bigger than normal (5" square).  I used Red Hot and Black Licorice cardstocks along with some MME Lost and Found papers.  I used a Rolled Rose as the circle element in the sketch and the Simply Scallops Medium for the scalloped element.

I finished the inside of the card off with another Simply Scallops Medium and two different sentiments from the set.

    MFT August Creative Challenge

In 2011, MFT is working harder than ever to inspire you, and we have come up with something we think you'll really enjoy. Our Design Team Creative Challenge is a monthly feature, where we challenge our design team to explore their creative side using a specific theme, product or technique. This month, we're all making cards featuring Fun Folds! Visit Kim's Blog for a full list of designers that have taken up the challenge!

For my card I decided to make an easel card.  I've seen about a bajillion of these out in blogland but hadn't been able to cross it off my to-do list until now.  I used this tutorial by Beate over on Splitcoast and inked up Pure Innocence Pucker Up for the occasion.  I embellished with a couple strips of cardstock cut from the Die-namics Simply Scallops Medium die as well as some flowers made out of the Pretty Posies die.  In keeping with the whole "fun folds" theme, I used the 3/8" rosette die to do some paper pleating with the teal piece under my image.

Here's the side view so you can see why it's called an easel card.

What a fun challenge!  Thanks so much for stopping by today and I'll see you back here tomorrow for the MFT sketch challenge.

August Sketch For You to Try Meets Kraftin’ Kimmie Stamps!

    sfytt-post-banner

It’s the first Saturday in August and that means it’s time for another Sketch for You to Try.  As usual Jen has come up with a fabulous sketch and this month we’re sponsored by Kraftin’ Kimmie stamps. Now Kraftin’ Kimmie just happens to be one of my fave stamp companies, and I’m lucky enough to design for them as well – so I get to kill two birds with one stone today.  My card is both for the sketch as well as for our usual Saturday challenge over on the Kraftin’ Kimmie challenge blog.  Melanie is our fabulous hostess this week and she wants us to use distressing on our cards.
I used Talullahbelle for my card as well as the sentiment that comes with Isabelle.  I paired her with some My Mind’s Eye papers and stitched around everything.  Then I raised the edge beyond the stitching and distressed it just a bit.  I wanted it to be soft and not too messy.  I coated the fairy wings with a clear Spica pen and used some vellum for the sentiment – which makes up the horizontal panel on the sketch.

Here’s the sketch!  I hope you’ll play along with us.  All of the details can be found over on Jen’s blog!
